CRANE SAFTY AND YOUR
EMPLOYEE
Just as we complete, one year
and begin a New Year the
Buzzword is still Crane safety!
With the ever increasing
utilization of cranes in the
offshore market much focus is
being placed on the estimated
2500 cranes in the Gulf Of
Mexico. According to MMS
cranes were responsible for
18% of all injuries and 28% of
all fatalities in the offshore area. With this data at your
finger tips why not provide
your personnel with the right tool to minimize the potential
injury, fatality and or
equipment damages on your
rig, vessel or platform site.
This tool is simple compare it
to a seat belt in your car. Most
companies have company
policies requiring personnel to
buckle up (its also the Law) the
seat belt does not prevent all
injuries and fatalities but it is
proven to help minimize the
occurrence and severity when
accidents do occur.
Royal Service & Rentals, Inc.
first introduced a safety
enhancement tool in May 1999.
Since then many imitators have
supplied the industries with
lower quality equipment (the
customer paying the ultimate
price, low performance, poor
video and poor after sale
service) this tool is known as
the Royal Crane Boom Camera
system. When used properly
this tool will minimize the “Blind Lifts”.
(A Blind Lift is where the
crane operator can not
see his load). With this
camera system it enables
the crane operator to have a
birds Eye view of the entire
load, rigging, and rigging
personnel
“ THE MOST REPORTED CAUSES CONTRIBUTING TO CRANE ACCIDENTS
ARE LACK OF VISIBILITY
BY THE CRANE OPERATOR
AND SLOW RESPONSE BY THE FLAGMAN”
- The crane operator
can zoom-in and focus onto a
shackle or hook assuring the proper
rigging procedures have been used.
- The crane operator
can zoom in and
see the riggers hands minimizing potential pinch
point accidents .
- The crane operator
can zoom out and
observe the over all
area for equipment
stored around his
load area. All this
by at touch of (1) button before he begins his lifting
operation.
Crane operators that have
used Royals system all
have positive testimonies
about the crane boom
camera system. Comments
as ease of operations,
enhancing vision, allowing
them to see the entire area
and not depending 100% on
a flagman.
Most Crane operators
would not think of
operating a crane without a
two block system in place
for safety reasons.
So why not provide him
with another tool to help
eliminate injuries, fatalities
and or property damage.
According to sources the
2004 crane incidents
recorded are (0) fatalities,
(5) injuries and (11) overall
incidents.
